The Berkeley Springs Indians basketball team hit the road last week for two challenging matchups, finish- ing with a 1-1 record to push their season record to 7-3.
The Indians traveled to Southern Fulton, Pa., on Tuesday, January 14, seeking redemption against the Southern Fulton Indians, who handed Berkeley Springs their first loss of the season during the Tri-State Tournament. Berkeley Springs started strong, maintaining a slim lead throughout the game to take the 54-49 win over Southern Fulton.
Sophomore Brennan Hoover delivered an impressive performance, leading the Tribe with 15 points and 5 rebounds. Senior Landen Schetrompf added 13 points and 3 assists, while sophomore Kyle Moore notched a double-double with 12 points and 13 rebounds. Landon Stotler contributed 6 points and 9 rebounds, senior Bethel George chipped in 5 points, and sophomore Jake Aulabaugh rounded out the scoring with 3 points.
On Friday, the Indians faced a tough contest on Friday, January 17 in Romney, against the Hampshire Trojans. Berkeley Springs held a narrow lead after the first quarter (15-13), but Hampshire surged ahead in the second and maintained their advantage to eventually take the 51-42 win.
Sophomore Kyle Moore once again led the way with 13 points and 8 rebounds. Brennan Hoover followed closely with 12 points, and Landon Stotler added 11 points and 9 re- bounds. Landen Schetrompf contributed 4 points and senior Shawn Bland scored 2 points.
The Indians return to action on Wednesday, January 22, with a highly anticipated rivalry game on the road at Frankfort. On Saturday, January 25, Berkeley Springs will head to Magnolia for the ROT Challenge, facing Valley Wetzel at 9:30 a.m. Notably, Valley Wetzel is coached by former Lady Indians assistant coach Jeff Derby.
The Tribe will look to continue their strong season as they aim for consistency and momentum heading into the latter part of the schedule.
