Paw Paw Pirates face tough holiday stretch

Tanouye hits career milestone

The Paw Paw Pirates basketball team faced a challenging holiday stretch, dropping three consecutive games to see their season record fall to 1-6. Despite the tough losses, senior standout Donovan Tanouye provided a bright spot for the team, reaching an incredible career milestone.

On December 27, the Pirates traveled to face Blacklick Valley (Pa.), falling 84-72 in a competitive matchup. Unfortunately, no individual stats were reported for this game.

The following night, December 28, the Pirates squared off against Turkeyfoot Valley Area (Pa.), where they suffered a 97-64 defeat. Despite the loss, the game was a memorable one for Paw Paw fans as Tanouye scored his 1,000th career point as a Pirate. This remarkable accomplishment highlights the senior’ s dedication and talent, solidifying his place as one of Paw Paw’s most decorated athletes.

To kick off the new year, the Pirates hosted Windber (Pa.) on Saturday, January 4, but struggled offensively, falling 80-26. The game marked a difficult outing for the young team against a formidable opponent.

The Pirates, led by their “never-give-up” mentality, will have a chance to bounce back when they host Turkey- foot Valley Area (Pa.) on January 8. This highly anticipated rematch tips off at 1 p.m. in front of the Pirates’ spirited student body, giving the team an opportunity to showcase their resilience.

While the season has been challenging so far, Tanouye’s historic achievement provides a moment of pride for Paw Paw’s basketball program.
