Berkeley Springs Indians claim third place at Tri-State Shootout

The Berkeley Springs Indians basketball team show- cased resilience and determination over the holi- day break and into the new year. Finishing third in the Tri-State Shootout on December 27-28 at Berkeley Springs High School, the Indians bounced back from a tough opening loss to Southern Fulton with a hard-fought victory over Boonsboro. The team carried that momentum into the new year with a decisive win against Moorefield on January 4.

Friday, December 27: Berkeley Springs vs. Southern Fulton

The Indians opened the tournament against nearby rival Southern Fulton (Pa.). Southern Fulton set the pace early, jumping to an 11-6 lead in the first quarter and maintaining a 16-13 advantage at halftime. The third quarter proved pivotal as Southern Fulton surged with an 18-5 run, breaking the game open to lead 34-18. Despite a spirited effort in the final quarter, Berkeley Springs fell short, 44-32.

Top scorers for Berkeley Springs included Bethel George (7 points), Landen Schetrompf (7 points), and Jackson Ambrose (5 points).

Saturday, December 28: Berkeley Springs vs. Boonsboro

The Indians regrouped for the third-place game against the Boonsboro Warriors (Md.). Berkeley Springs came out strong, taking a 13- 12 first-quarter lead. A back-and-forth second quarter saw the Indians hold a narrow 26- 23 halftime advantage. The third quarter mirrored the second, with Berkeley Springs maintaining a 39-33 lead. In the final quarter, the Indians’ tight defense and clutch free throws sealed a 51-48 victory.

Senior Landen Schetrompf’s consistent performance earned him a spot on the Tri-State Shootout All- Tournament Team.

January 4: Indians Dominate Moorefield Yellow Jackets

Returning to action in the new year, the Indians hosted Moorefield in an afternoon contest. Berkeley Springs established an early 11-7 lead and carried a 25-20 advantage into halftime. A 12-8 third-quarter run widened their lead to 37-28. The Indians maintained their offensive momentum in the final quarter, closing out the game with a commanding 51-35 victory.

The balanced scoring at- tack was led by Landen Schetrompf (10 points), Kyle Moore (10 points), and Landon Stotler (10 points). Contributions also came from Jake Aulabaugh (8 points), Brennan Hoover (5 points), and several others.

In the JV matchup, Moorefield edged out a 32-31 victory over the Indians.

With a 6-2 record, the Indians are gearing up for their next challenge—an away game at archrival Keyser on January 7.
