Berkeley Springs High School Wrestling shines at Jefferson Duals

The Berkeley Springs High School Indians wrestling team showcased their talent at the Jefferson Duals held December 20-21 at Jefferson High School in Charles Town.

Competing against a strong field of 24 teams from Maryland, Virginia and West Virginia, the Indians delivered an impressive performance, going undefeated in Pool D with a 5-0 record before facing tough competition in the championship pool.

On Friday, December 20, Berkeley Springs opened their campaign with a commanding 54-24 victory over Southern Garrett.

Key highlights included:

Vaughn Taylor (120) pinning his opponent in just 27 seconds.

Trent Fox (157) earning a technical fall with a dominant 17-0 score.

Aiden Cain (165) pinning his opponent in just 47 seconds.

The Indians followed up with a narrow 36-30 win over Skyline, driven by strong performances from Daniel Clark (132) and Kowen Proctor (144), who each secured crucial pins.

Later, Berkeley Springs routed Clarke County 60-9, with multiple forfeits and standout victories, including: Kaiden Proctor (144) and Trent Fox (157), both earning falls in under 30 seconds. Garrin Place (190) picking up a forfeit victory to help extend the lead.

The Indians ended Friday with a dominant 54-23 win over Moorefield, highlighted by:

Jacob Morgan (138) pinning his opponent in 1:59.

Kollin Sullivan (175) delivering a fall in just 1:50.

On Saturday, December 21, the Indians clinched their final Pool D match with a hard-fought 43-36 victory over Bethesda Chevy Chase (Md.). Kaiden Proctor (150) and Trent Fox (157) secured vital wins to maintain their undefeated streak.

In the championship pool, Berkeley Springs faced stiffer competition, starting with a 53-27 loss to Washington High School. Despite the set-back, notable performances included:

Jacob Morgan (138) pinning his opponent in 1:52.

Aiden Cain (157) earning a fall in 1:32.

The Indians then narrowly fell to Martinsburg, 38-37, in a thrilling match that came down to the final bout which found the scored tied at 37-37 and the match was decided on Criteria F which was the team who gave up the least amount of forfeits, which gave the Bulldogs a point and the win. Martinsburg ended up going undefeated and winning the Jefferson Duals. Highlights included:

Elijah Parsell (113) and Vaughn Taylor (120) secur- ing pins under a minute.

Daniel Clark (132) delivering a fall in 3:46.

Going undefeated in the two-day event for Berkeley Springs were Jacob Morgan and Kowen Proctor. Going 7-1 for Berkeley Springs were: Eligah Parsell , Daniel Clark, Aiden Cain and Kollin Sullivan. Going 6-2 was Trent Fox and going 4-2 was Kaiden Proctor. Finishing 5-3 was Remington Sites.

The Jefferson Duals provided a valuable opportunity for the Indians to compete against top regional and tri-state talent. With standout performances across weight classes, Berkeley Springs demonstrated their depth and resilience, setting the stage for continued success this season.

The Indians looked to build on their strong showing as they prepared for the East Fairmont Invitational which was held on Saturday, December 28 at East Fairmont High School.
