Hill pleads to sexual abuse charges, halting trial

Just as his trial was about to begin on charges of sexual abuse, sexual assault and failure to update a sex offender registry earlier this month, a Morgan County man pled guilty to several of the counts.

Shannon Hill, 63, of Berkeley Springs was indicted this September on a second offense of failure to update his registry with the West Virginia State Police as a sex offender, and nine counts of first-degree sexual abuse and one count of second-degree sexual assault.

He was accused of abusing two minor victims over the course of nine years – from 2012 to 2021. Hill was also accused of sexually assaulting the mother of one of the victims.

The case was investigated by the West Virginia State Police.

On December 3 after a jury had been selected to hear his case, Hill pled guilty to failure to update his sex offender registry and three counts of first-degree sexual assault. Seven of the other criminal counts against Hill were dismissed under the plea agreement, which was to expire the day of his trial.

Hill is scheduled to be sentenced for his crimes on February 6, 2025.
