On Friday, November 8, the Berkeley Springs Indians faced the Class A Moorefield Yellow Jackets on their home turf at Morgan Field. The evening began on a high note as Berkeley Springs celebrated its senior band, cheer and football members, marking a memorable moment for those students in their final regular season game of 2024. However, the optimism of Senior Night faded quickly once the game was underway.
The Indians, aiming to secure their fourth win of the season, were immediately challenged by the relentless Moorefield Yellow Jackets, who came out strong from the opening whistle. Moorefield’s aggressive play capitalized on a weakened Berkeley Springs defense and multiple turnovers, allowing them to dominate the scoreboard with a staggering 57-0 lead by halftime.
With the second half played under a shortened clock, the running clock rule became the Indians’ best defense, slowing down the Yellow Jackets’ momentum. Berkeley Springs managed to rally in the final quarter, scoring two late touchdowns to avoid a shutout.
BSHS got touchdown runs from Trent Wheeler and Steven Aulabaugh with extra points by DJ Hinckle.
Despite this tough loss, Berkeley Springs finished their season with a record of 3-7, showing progress under second-year head coach Wes Eddy after a 1-9 season in 2023.
