Verizon Communications Inc. and Frontier Communications Parent Inc. have filed a joint application with the West Virginia Public Service Commission for Verizon to acquire Frontier.
The deal would give Verizon complete control of Frontier West Virginia Inc., Citizens Telecommunications Co. of West Virginia, and other Frontier subsidiaries operating in the state.
The application argues that West Virginia consumers will see significant advantages from the acquisition. Verizon’s experience in building advanced networks and its commitment to offering choices are highlighted as key benefits. Additionally, Verizon’s financial resources are expected to improve the existing Frontier fiber and copper network infrastructure, according to the filing.
Frontier customers could gain access to the various offerings and benefits currently enjoyed by Verizon customers, the filing asserts.
This includes a wider range of service options, such as low-income plans, and access to next-generation network technology, according to the filing.
Verizon’s financial strength could also lead to investments in improving service quality, increasing value, and offering more choices to West Virginians.
Verizon previously sold its West Virginia holdings to Frontier.
The PSC has referred the case to the Division of Administrative Law Judges for a decision to be made by May 29.
