Berkeley Springs Food Lion Store Manager Terry Wilson and Assistant Store Manager Mike Duvall were recognized at the October 1 Morgan County School Board meeting for their hard work and efforts during the recent second annual Stuff-A-Bus that was hosted by the Food Lion.
Last year’s and this year’s Stuff-A-Bus were the brainchild of Widmyer Elementary Communities in Schools Student Success Liaison Sherrie Byrd, who organized both events. The Stuff-A-Bus events collected donations of easy-to-open nutritious snacks and hygiene products.
Byrd said she was so appreciative of Wilson and Duvall, who were team players and always looking to do whatever they could to help. They stuffed two buses with food and supplies. This year’s Stuff-A-Bus was even more successful than last year’s.
Wilson and Duvall convinced the Food Lion to give them two pallets of food to help families, she noted. They also raised over $5,000 in cash donations over two years and got $1,050 in hygiene products from the Food Lion. The two
managers also created displays in the Food Lion that encouraged shoppers to buy special products for Stuff-A-Bus.
The volunteers who manned the table outside the Food Lion and asked for donations, the community’s
support in purchasing items and giving cash donations and the Food Lion partnership have been awesome, Byrd said.
Superintendent David Banks said, “It’s just amazing what you do for our kids. Many don’t have regular access to regular food on their table.”
Banks said that Wilson and Duvall see the struggles that county families have and are supplying food to the students of Morgan County.
Wilson said that he and Duvall are products of Morgan County and their children are, too. The Food Lion also works with school system coaches and donates 500 cases of water a year for athletics. They just want to help the community.
Stuff-A-Bus supplies are housed at Widmyer Elementary but are sent across the county to other schools as needed.
