Donald James Sharp
1935-2024
Donald James Sharp, age 89, of Berkeley Springs, W.Va., died on Saturday, September 21, 2024 at his home.
Born July 31, 1935 in Marlinton, W.Va., he was the son of the late Charles Jack and Ora Belle Thompson Sharp.
He attended Calvary Bible Church. Donald was a graduate of Marlinton High School. Don served in the United States Navy from July 24, 1953 until his discharge on July 9, 1956 at the rank of RMSN and was awarded the National Defense Service Medal. He worked as a West Virginia State Trooper from 1958 until his retirement in 1981 at rank of Corporal and was recipient of the Law Enforcement Purple Heart for being wounded in the line of duty. After his retirement, Don served as Senior Status Magistrate with the Morgan County Magistrate Court System. Donald was a member of Beckley Lodge #95 A.F. & A.M., Alderton-Dawson American Legion Post #60 and the West Virginia Troopers Association. He enjoyed hunting and camping. Don loved traveling with his wife, Mildred, where they visited all 50 states.
Don is survived by his wife of 67 years, Mildred Marie Underwood Sharp at home, four children, Walker Denny Sharp (Kim) of White Lake, Mich., Donna Lynn Stains (Keith) of Harpers Ferry, W.Va., Wanda Sharp Childers (Steve) of Lexington, Va. and Kevin Scott Sharp (Amy) of Corpus Christi, Texas, three sisters, Catherine Baechtel of Gaithersburg, Md., Kay Burke of Millboro Springs, Va. and Charlotte Slagle of Marlinton, W.Va., three brothers, Craig Sharp of Hopewell, Va., Tom Sharp of Marlinton, W.Va. and Doug Sharp of Petersburg, W.Va., 10 grandchildren, seven great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Jimmie Hale Sharp, two sisters, Patricia Lamoureux and Brenda “Cookie” Doss and five brothers, Jack, Earl, Lew, Dick and Hub Sharp.
Celebration of Life Services will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, September 28, 2024 at Alderton-Dawson American Legion Post #60, 527 N. Washington Street, Berkeley Springs, W.Va. where the family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Pastor BJ Worley will officiate. Military honors will be provided from the Tri-State Honor Guard. Burial will be private.
In lieu of flowers, contribution in Don’s memory may be made to the Tri-State Honor Guard, 527 N. Washington Street, Berkeley Springs, WV 25411.
