Berkeley Springs Soccer faces tough week on the pitch

by Jamie Harris

The Berkeley Springs Indi- ans soccer team had a challenging week, starting with a home match against the Petersburg Vikings on Tuesday, September 24, at Morgan Field. Despite rainy conditions, the Indians quickly took control, jumping out to a 2-0 lead. However, the Vikings fought back and edged out the Indians with a 5-4 victory.

Kyle Bland led the way for the Indians with two goals and three shots on goal (SOG). Jacob Morgan contributed one goal with five SOG, while Adam Payne added one goal with three SOG. Payne and Jaxon McClintock also chipped in with an assist each. Both Chase Stotler and Malcolm Johns had a shot on goal as well. Goalkeeper Gavin Rucker played all 80 minutes in goal, making five saves on 11 shots.

The following day, Thursday, September 26, the Indians traveled to Southern Garrett, Md., to take on the Rams. Unfortunately, the Rams proved to be too strong, handing Berkeley Springs an 11-0 defeat.

On Saturday, September 28, the Indians faced sectional rivals North Marion. Although the Indians played a gritty game, North Marion came out on top with a 5-1 victory. Shawn Bland scored the lone goal for Berkeley Springs with an impressive 25-yard strike.

Berkeley Springs (1-9) will look to bounce back on Thursday, October 3, when the Indians will travel to Garrett County to take on the Northern Garrett Huskies.

The home game on Tuesday, October 1, against the Frankfort Falcons was can- celled and will be rescheduled.
