This past Saturday, September 28, the Berkeley Springs Indians hit the road for a rare Saturday afternoon matchup, traveling to New Cumberland, to take on the Oak Glen Golden Bears (Class AA). The Indians delivered a well-rounded performance on both sides of the ball, securing a convincing 27-12 victory over the Golden Bears.
A balanced offensive attack powered the Indians to the win, led by quarter- back Aiden Cain, who showcased his dual-threat abilities. Cain completed 10 of 18 passes for 139 yards, including a touchdown, while also adding 71 yards on the ground. Trenton Wheeler contributed to the ground game with 42 rushing yards and two touchdowns, while also hauling in two receptions for 20 yards. Kyle Moore was Cain’s primary target, making five catches for 87 yards and a touchdown. Other key contributors included Landen Schetrompf (3 receptions for 14 yards, 16 yards rushing), Adam Rippeon (1 reception for 15 yards), and Jake Aulabaugh (1 reception for 3 yards). DJ Hinckle rounded out the scoring with three successful extra points.
On defense, the Indians stifled the Golden Bears with standout performances across the board. Kyle Moore made his presence known with six tackles and an interception returned for a touchdown. Owen Kemmerer led the team with 10 tackles and two interceptions, while Krystian Norris was a force with a team-high 12 tackles. Seth Armentrout contributed eight tackles, and Brian Ailor added six tackles and 1.5 sacks. The defensive effort was rounded out by contributions from Steve Aulabaugh (5 tackles), Bethel George (3 tackles), Jay Michael (2 tackles), Kowen Proctor (3 tackles), and Jackson Ambrose (3 tackles).
With the win, Berkeley Springs improves to 2-3 on the season. The Indians will look to continue their momentum when they host Philip Barbour this Friday, October 4, at 7 p.m.
