Morgan County School Board meetings will soon be live-streamed and recorded so the public can view the meeting at a later time. School board president Aaron Close said at their August 20 meeting that they were doing a trial run that evening and noted the microphones on the table for recording. That meeting was held via the Zoom platform.
Close said they planned to have everything up and running for the live stream by their next meeting on September 3. They were also going to post signs in the meeting room to let the public know they were going to be on camera and recorded. The meeting live- streams would probably be placed on YouTube, he said.
A policy was approved this summer by the West Virginia Board of Education requiring that beginning September 1, 2024, county school board meetings statewide will be live-streamed and recorded. The meeting videos/recordings will be posted online to the county board’s website within five business days of the meeting, according to policy. Morgan County Schools’ web address is: https://www.morganschools.net/
Board agendas are listed under the Board of Education heading on the menu at the top left of the home page.
Directions for accessing the live stream of the meetings will be made available to the public through the county school district’s website or the school board agendas.
The move promotes accessibility and transparency in public governmental meetings, state officials said.
