Fireman’s Carnival overcomes summer storms

Five days of carnival fun became six last week as summer storms interrupted evening activities several times at South Morgan Volunteer Fire Department. Carnival organizers extended the event into Sunday to make up for time lost, especially on Saturday evening when a severe thunderstorm barreled through the region.

The Rainbow sent out squeals and screams across the Fireman’s Carnival last week as Snyder’s Entertainment brought rides to South Morgan.

Fire department officials cut off entertainment and rides on Saturday, August 31, on what was supposed to be the final night of the carnival, as high winds and heavy rain blew into Morgan County in early evening.

Fleet Family Five swallowed swords and fire during their act on Saturday, August 31 just before storms rolled into the fireman’s carnival.

Indoor events like the fire department’s traditional dinner and fundraiser auction continued on Saturday despite the weather.

Snyder’s Entertainment and South Morgan VFD made the decision to offer an additional day of the carnival on Sunday, September 1 to let ticket holders use their ride tickets and to bring back Saturday’s band, The Flashbacks, to play to the crowd.
