Last Friday night, August 30, the atmosphere at Morgan Field was electric as the Berkeley Springs Indians kicked off the 2024 football season, hosting the Petersburg Vikings. The Indians were eager to start strong and catch the Vikings off guard, but Petersburg had other plans.
The Vikings’ freshman quarterback proved to be too much for the Indians’ defense, showcasing his skills both in the air and on the ground. Petersburg jumped out to an early 19-7 lead by halftime, leaving Berkeley Springs struggling to find their footing.
In the second half, the Vikings continued their offensive onslaught, adding 29 more points to secure a dominant 48-28 victory over the Tribe. The Indians’ offense managed just 213 total yards, with quarterback Aiden Cain accounting for 156 of those yards through the air. Cain threw for three touchdown passes and added another score with his legs. Kyle Moore was on the receiving end of two touchdown passes, one for 8 yards and another for 67 yards, while Landon Schetrompf hauled in a touchdown reception of his own.
Berkeley Springs will look to bounce back this Friday, September 6, at 7 p.m., when they host Trinity Christian out of Morgantown at Morgan Field.
