Robert Melvin Barnard, Sr.
1934-2024
Robert Melvin “Pappy” Barnard, Sr., of Hancock, Md., went peacefully to be with the Lord at his home on Tuesday, July 16, 2024. He was 90 years old.
He was born on January 5, 1934 in Cumberland, Md. to Melvin Barnard and Catherine (Campbell) Barnard.
He was a Navy Veteran of the Korean War, on the USS Dyess880 Destroyer.
He was a member of Hancock Assembly of God in Hancock, Md.
Over the years “Pappy” worked for the Western Maryland Railroad as a Telegraph Operator, London Fog Sewing Factory as a mechanic, and retired from RCI Roxbury as a Correctional Officer.
He is survived by his devoted wife Darce Irene (Dorrier) Barnard, married 71 years. His children Robert M. Barnard, Jr. (Sara), Inga M. Barnard (Rick), Christopher J. Barnard (Rita), and Jennifer S. Shade (Bobby), 13 grandchildren, 37 great-grandchildren and 11 great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by 2 grandsons.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the Hospice of Washington County staff who assisted compassionate care to “Pappy” during his illness.
A Life Celebration will be held at the Assembly of God Church, Pa. Ave., Hancock, Md. on Saturday, August 10, 2024 at 1 p.m.
