1950-2024

James Kevin Riffle, age 73, of Berkeley Springs, W.Va., died on Friday, June 21, 2024 at his home.

Born July 19, 1950 in Weston, W.Va., he was the son of the late Claude Warren and Christine Gay Riffle.

Jim was a graduate of Lewis County High School.

He attended Wesleyan Chapel and First United Methodist Church.

Jim worked from 1976 until his retirement in 2000 as a State Trooper with the West Virginia State Police. He was owner/operator of 10x Freedom Gun Range in Berkeley Springs, where he was a concealed carry instructor. In previous years, Jim worked as a lineman with the B&O Railroad and as a security officer with Swanson Security Service at the National Conservation Training Center in Shepherdstown, WV.

Jim was a member of the West Virginia State Fraternal Order of Police, life member of NRA, Berkeley Springs Lions Club, Deford Lodge #88 A.F. & A.M. in Berkeley Springs and was a 32nd Degree Scottish Rite Free Mason of Valley of Martinsburg.

He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting, fishing and farming. Jim loved to lend a helping hand to others in need.

Jim is survived by his children, Shelby Diann Alderman and husband, Doug of Buckhannon, W.Va., Pamela Dawn Brandenburg and husband, Jason of Martinsburg, W.Va. and Sara Ann Riffle of Martinsburg, two brothers, Claude M. Riffle and wife, Leone of Kingwood, W.Va. and Robert G. Riffle and wife, Lora of Richmond, Va., his companion, Kathy Bohrer, four grandsons, Colton Lane Brandenburg, Ryan Garrett Brandenburg, James Douglas Alderman and Benjamin Warren Alderman and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted at 7 p.m. on Thursday, June 27, 2024 at Helsley-Johnson Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 95 Union Street, Berkeley Springs, W.Va., where the family will receive friends from 1-3 & 5-7 p.m. Pastor Matt Swope will officiate. Graveside services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Friday, June 28, 2024 at Orlando Cemetery, 100 Orlando Cemetery Road, Orlando, W.Va. Graveside masonic rites will be provided by Deford Lodge #88 A.F & A.M. Rev. Martin Hoover will officiate.
