Leroy “Lafe” Platt
1932-2024
Leroy “Lafe” Platt, age 92, died peacefully Friday, April 19, 2024, at home in New Carrollton, Maryland, surrounded by his family.
Born January 6, 1932, in Kiefer, Maryland, he was the second of seven children to the late Owen and Mary Carder Platt.
After graduating from Oldtown High School in 1950, he joined the U.S. Air Force. Returning home, he became a member of Local No. 5 Ironworkers Union. Upon retirement from the union, he worked 15 years at Enterprise Golf Course in a variety of roles.
Lafe was never a man to be idle. He did construction projects for family and friends building home additions, rmodeling kitchens, bathrooms, etc.
Surviving is his wife of 63 years, Jean Stotler Platt; daughter Suzanne (David) McCaffrey of Rochester, N.Y.; daughter-in-law Michelle Platt; grandchildren Kristin Platt, Lindsey (Casey) Nichols, Carder McCaffrey, Emmie McCaffrey and Shed McCaffrey; great-grandchildren Colton Montanez and Cael, Isla and Avery Nichols; and sisters Nancy Fortson in Calif., and Mary Ann Buzzanca and Jo Musialowski in Paw Paw, W.Va.
He was preceded in death by his son, Michael Platt, December 12, 2022, and his brothers Earl, Donald and Bill.
Lafe enjoyed life and was generous with his time and love with family and friends. A friend wrote, “He was a true gentleman, always had a smile and never spoke ill of anyone.” Lafe was loved by many and will be greatly missed.
