Years of crafting the art of pole vaulting has finally paid off for Berkeley Springs senior Dakota Hamrick. The hard work and dedication was on dis- play this past weekend in Charleston, at the Class AA State Track and Field Championships. Last year, Hamrick finished as the state runner-up and used that as motivation for his senior track season.
Hamrick came into Fri- day’s pole vaulting compe- tition as the #1 ranked pole-vaulter in Class AA. Hamrick the defending Re- gion I champion used a vault of 13’00” to capture his first state pole vault championship. The next nearest distance to Ham- rick’s winning vault was from Point Pleasant’s Cohen McDaniel who had a vault of 12’6”.
