Berkeley Springs Track competes at Hedgesville Journal Invitational

Last Friday, April 26 the Berkeley Springs High School track and field team traveled to Hedgesville for the annual Hedgesville Journal Invitational. The event featured Class A A A teams Hedgesville, Hampshire, Washington, Spring Mills and Class AA Berkeley Springs.

On the girl’ s side, the Lady Indians finished in fifth place with 41 points. Spring Mills (98), Hedgesville (81), Washington (78) and Hamp- shire (59) rounded out the top four teams.

The following track and field athletes led the Lady Indians in their respective events. Kayleigh Coulter (fifth place, 800 meters, 2:51), Isabelle Bingaman (third place, 1600 meters, 6:02), Audrey Helmick (second place, 3200 meters, 12:44), Circe Powell (second place, 100 hurdles, 18.33 and fifth place, pole vault, 6’ 00’ ’ ), 4×800 meter relay (second place, 11:14), Katie Risinger (fifth place, shot put, 30’ 1/2” and sixth place, discus, 80’ 4”), Stephanie Briscoe (second place, dis- cus, 97’7”), Clara Payne (seventh place, discus, 77’11”), Willow Rhoten (fourth place, high jump, 4’ 2”), Macey Fincham (fifth place, high jump, 4’2”), Kaitlyn Hagney (third place, pole vault, 7’00”) and Jillian Fortney (fifth place, pole vault, 6’00”).

On the boy’ s side, the Indians finished in fifth place with eight points. Spring Mills (143), Hampshire (81), Hedgesville (73) and Washington (64) rounded out the top four teams.

The following athletes placed for the Indians in their respective events. Jacob Shekey (eighth place, 100 meters, 12.19 and eighth place, 400 meters, 59.53), Josh Walls (eighth place, 800 meters, 2:24), LJ Sealey (sixth place, 1600 meters, 5:03 and fifth place, 3200 meters, 11:27), 4×800 meter relay (fifth place, 10:22), Lukas Purdy (sixth place, dis- cus, 109’ 3”), Dakota Hamrick (second place, pole vault, 12’ 6”) and Changjae Yun (fifth place, pole vault, 8’00”).
