Parsell’s walk off homerun leads Lady Indians past Hancock

The Berkeley Springs Lady Indians softball team was back on the diamond this past week with a road trip to Class A A A Spring Mills and homes games with Class AAA Hedgesville and Maryland 1A Hancock.

Last Monday, March 18 the Lady Indians hit the road to take on the Spring Mills Cardinals. Spring Mills was able to take the 13-1 win over Berkeley Springs. The Lady Indians were led by Emma Widmeyer (triple and run) and Marley Heath (single).

On Wednesday, March 20 the Lady Indians hosted the Hedgesville Eagles. In a high scoring contest Hedgesville took the 19-10 win over Berkeley Springs. The Lady Indians were finally able to start putting some hits and runs together which has been missing early on this season. Leading the way were Layla Parsell (2 singles, HR, run and 2 RBI’s), Allison Gray (HR, 2 singles, 2 runs and 2 RBI’ s), Emma Widmeyer (HR, double, 2 runs and 2 RBI’s), Bailee Diehl (run), Kamryn Buck (RBI), Jayda Thompson (run), Ocean Clatterbuck (single and run), Marley Heath (single, double, triple, 2 runs and 3 RBI’s) and Alaira Harrington (single).

On Thursday, March 21 the Lady Indians hosted the Hancock Panthers. In a game that saw Hancock jump out to a 6-3 lead after the first three innings. Berkeley Springs would rally in the bottom of the sixth inning to take a 10-8 lead. The Panthers roared back in the top of the seventh inning with two runs to tie the game at 10-10. In the bottom of the seventh inning Layla Parsell blasted a walk-off homerun to give Berkeley Springs its first win of the season by the score of 11-10.

Also blasting a homerun was Emma Widmeyer who also added a triple, two runs, and 5 RBI’ s. Berkeley Springs also got contributions from Parsell (2 runs and 2 RBI’s), Kamryn Buck (run), Jayda Thompson (single and run), Ocean Clatterbuck (2 singles, 2 runs and RBI), Marley Heath (2 singles, double, run and RBI), Allison Gray (2 doubles, run and RBI) and Scotlyn Forney (run).

Berkeley Spring (1-5) was be back in action this week when they hosted Clarke County (Va.) on Monday, March 25. On Tuesday, March 26 the Lady Indians hosted East Hardy. On Thursday, March 28 the Lady Indians will travel to Moorefield for a 5 p.m. contest. On Saturday, March 30 the Lady Indians will host a double header. First at 10 a.m. against the North Hagerstown Hubs (Md.) and then at 12 p.m. against the Northern Garrett Huskies (Md).
