Calvin Frederick Hoffman
1930-2023
Calvin Frederick Hoffman, age 93, of Berkeley Springs, W.Va., died on Saturday, December 30, 2023 at his home while under the care of Hospice of the Panhandle.
Born November 28, 1930 in Hancock, Md., he was the son of the late Malcom Hoffman and the late Nellie Cubbage Mazingo.
He was a member of the Warfordsburg Presbyterian Church in Warfordsburg, Pa.
Calvin was a graduate of Hancock High School.
He served in the United States Army during the Korean War from November 16, 1948 until his honorable discharge on August 7, 1952, where he was awarded the Army Occupation Medal.
Mr. Hoffman was Vice President of Fulton Petroleum. Calvin was a member of the Hancock Lions Club, where he served as president. He was also a member of Webster B. Harrison American Legion Post #26, James W. Bowers Masonic Lodge #173 A.F. & A.M., both in Hancock.
He enjoyed playing bridge, woodworking, landscaping and gardening. Mr. Hoffman was an avid reader.
Calvin is survived by his wife of 71 years, Velda Maxine McInturff Hoffman, at home, his children, Steven C. Hoffman and his wife, Susan of Mt. Airy, Md. and Todd B. Hoffman and his wife, Ann of Silver Spring, Md., two brothers, James Mazingo of Mesa, Ariz. and Dennis Mazingo of Hagerstown, Md., four grandchildren, Brittney, Ashley, Lauren and Scott, five great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Patsy Koch and four brothers, Roger Hoffman, Foster Hoffman, Ross Mazingo and Jeff Mazingo.
Celebration of Life services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Saturday, January 13, 2024 at Warfordsburg Presbyterian Church, 12941 Buck Valley Road, Warfordsburg, Pa. Pastors Dan Meredith and Ed Blank will officiate. Inurnment will be in Warfordsburg Presbyterian Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 2 p.m.-4 p.m. on Friday, January 12, 2024 at Helsley-Johnson Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 95 Union Street, Berkeley Springs, W.Va.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Calvin’s memory may be made to the Warfordsburg Presbyterian Church, 12941 Buck Valley Road, Warfordsburg, PA 17267.
