Courthouse officials are awaiting the results of a West Virginia Department of Natural Resources (DNR) investigation into a fish kill in Warm Springs Run late last week to determine if they can proceed with power washing work.
Dead fish were spotted in the run downstream of the courthouse and reported to the DNR. DNR officials came to Berkeley Springs on Friday to start an investigation.
State officials will try to determine what caused the fish kill.
Contractors were power washing the courthouse on Wednesday, just prior to the fish being found, confirmed the county administrator.
A separate contracting firm has been working for the last two weeks in Warm Springs Run in the center of Berkeley Springs State Park to repair stone retaining walls and remove old bridge material.
