What a week it was for the Berkeley Springs Indians soccer team on the pitch. The Indians had a chance to add their win column as they played several teams that they had beaten earlier in the season.
Last Tuesday, September 26 the Indians hosted the Keyser Golden Tornado at Morgan Field. In a contest that was back and forth and each team matching each other goal for goal it came down to the closing minutes before the Indians secured the 6-5 win.
The Indians were led by Axel Robles who scored a pair of goals. Also scoring for the Indians were Shawn Bland, Malcolm Johns, Jacob Morgan and Yun Changjae.
Javi Hernanz had three assists and Yun had an assist.
Berkeley Springs got shots on goal from Robles (6), Her- nanz (4), Changjae (4), Deven Stone (3), Johns (3), Shawn Bland (1), Brody Beal (1) and Morgan (1). Hernanz had 6 steals while Stone had 5 steals.
Goalkeeper Kyle Bland had 15 saves in goal. Defensive players Shawn Bland and Landon Litten also earned saves while backing up the keeper.
On Thursday, September 28 the Indians traveled to Petersburg for a contest with the Vikings. In another tough game the Indians were able to hold off Petersburg for the 9- 5 win.
Robles and Changjae both recorded hat tricks (3 goals) for the Indians. Also scoring for the Indians were Shawn Bland, Hernanz and Morgan. Robles had three assists, Hernanz had two assists, while Morgan, Changjae and Johns had one assist each.
Getting shots on goal for the Indians were Robles (6), Changjae (5), Stone (4), Her- nanz (4), Morgan (3), Shawn Bland (2) and Kiel Gee (1). Stone (3 steals) and Hernanz (3 steals) were strong on defense. Goal keepers Kyle Bland (16 saves) and Gavin Rucker played well.
On Saturday, September 30 the Indians hosted the North Marion Huskies at Morgan Field. Riding on a two game winning streak the Indians did not let up as they took
down North Marion 5-1. Robles scored two goals while Hernanz and Changjae added a goal. Freshman Gee scored his first goal as well that helped secure the win for the Indians.
Hernanz had two assists in the win. Berkeley Springs got shots on goal from Robles (6), Hernanz (5), Stone (4), Changjae (2) and Morgan (1). Defensively, Hernanz had three steals, while Shawn Bland, Deven Stone and Jacob Morgan had two steals each. Goal keeper Kyle Bland had 20 saves and stopped two penalty kicks.
Berkeley Springs (6-8) will be back in action this Thursday, October 5 when they host Southern Fulton at 7 p.m. Prior to the game the Indians will recognize their senior players.
