Sheriff’s office asks for public help locating two children; warrant out for mother

UPDATE September 23:

The mother has been taken into custody and the children were found safely in Florida.

Sheriff K.C. Bohrer on Saturday released this statement: “After a coordinated effort between the Morgan County Sheriff’s Department, WVSP, WV Fusion Center, Lee County (FL) Sheriff’s Office, and Florida Department of Law Enforcement Amy Schulte was apprehended. Both Elijah and Ethen Marlin-Schulter were found and are being kept safely in the emergency custody of the State of Florida, until they can be returned to their father. The Morgan County Sheriff’s Department would like to thank all the agencies involved for their assistance in quickly resolving this matter, as well as the public for the information that assisted in this effort.”

Morgan County Sheriff K.C. Bohrer has asked the public to assist in locating two children, aged 9 and 4, who have been reported missing and are believed to be in the company of their non-custodial parent.

According to Bohrer, an investigation into parental kidnapping was opened on Thursday, September 21, led by Cpl. Hedrick and Capt. Tim Stapleton of the Sheriff’s Department.

A warrant with nationwide extradition has been obtained for the arrest of Amy Marie Schulte, 46. Police say Schulte is not the custodian of the children — Elijah, 9, and Ethen, 4 — and they are working to return the children to their father.

The children were last seen in Paw Paw with Schulte on August 21.

Police are asking anyone with information about the whereabouts of the children to contact the Morgan County Sheriff’s Department at 304-258-1067.
