Paw Paw Lady Pirates pick up two wins at PVC Volleyball Championships

This past Saturday, September 16, the Paw Paw Lady Pirates traveled to East Hardy High School for the 2023 PVC Volleyball Championships. The one-day tournament featured East Hardy, Paw Paw, Pendleton County, Petersburg, Tucker County, Tygarts Valley and Union.

In game one the Lady Pirates swept Tucker County 2- 0 (25-18 & 25-19). Paw Paw was led by Kyndal Corbett (14 service points, 1 kill and 6 aces), Miah Smith (7 service points and 1 ace), Karyann Kerns (5 service points, 1 kill and 3 aces) and Kelsey Hayes (3 service points, 3 kills and 1 ace).

In their second game Paw Paw picked up another win as they swept the Union Tigers 2-0 (25-11 & 25-15). The Lady Pirates were led by Pricilla Corbin (12 service points, 1 kill and 5 aces), Kelsey Hayes (6 service points, 3 kills and 1 ace), Karynn Kerns (6 service points, 2 kills and 2 aces), Kyndal Corbett (4 service points) and Miah Smith (3 service points and 1 ace).

In game three the Lady Pirates lost 2-0 (25-17 & 25-7) to host East Hardy. Pricilla Corbin led Paw Paw with 3 service points and 3 aces.

In the fourth game Paw Paw played Pendleton County to determine who would meet East Hardy in the PVC finals. Pendleton was able to secure the 2-0 win over the tired Lady Pirates. Scoring for Paw Paw were Pricilla Corbin, Britney Ramos, Karynn Kerns, Miah Smith and Kelsey Hayes.

“I am extremely proud of these girls, they played four games without any breaks in between the games. You could definitely see fatigue by the end of game three,” stated Coach Holly Palmer.

Paw Paw will be back on the court this Wednesday, September 20 when they host Turkeyfoot, Pa.
