The atmosphere last Friday night, September 15, at Morgan Field was electric as the stands were packed for a Friday night showdown between the Berkeley Springs Indians and the visiting Keyser Golden Tornado.

The game held a special meaning as it was the Hall of Fame Night and members of the Berkeley Springs High School Athletic Hall of Fame Class of 2023 were recognized. This year’ s class is packed with state champions, all-state members and two teams who all were at the top of their game back in their heyday.

Unfortunately, the hall of fame festivities was about the only bright spot for the Berkeley Springs faithful. Keyser scored five touchdowns on its first five possessions along with a field goal to take a 38-0 lead into the locker room at the half.

Keyser did not stop scoring in the third quarter either as they pushed their lead to 48- 0 at the end of the third quarter with another field goal and touchdown. The Indians were finally able to get on the scoreboard with 9:51 left in the third on a Jonah Kirk five yard touchdown run. Axel Robles was successful on the extra point at the Indians trailed 48-7.

Keyser would push the score to 54-7 when they recovered a fumble in the end zone for a score. With 4:35 left in the game the Indians scored again as quarterback Aiden Cain scored on a five yard run. Robles was successful on the extra point attempt which made the final score of the game 54-14.

Berkeley Springs (0-4) was led offensively by quarterback Aiden Cain. Cain had 71 yards rushing and a touchdown and was 5/12 passing with 79 yards. Conner Duvall (32 yards rushing), Jonah Kirk (16 yards rushing with a touchdown and one reception for four yards receiving, Isaiah Hutchinson (one reception for six yards), Adam Rippeon (one reception for 48 yards) and Kyle Moore (one reception for 22 yards) also led the way.

Berkeley Springs will be back at Morgan Field for another home contest this Saturday, September 23 when they host the Oak Glen Golden Bears at 4 p.m.
