Vikings blast Indians 46-0 in season opener

by Jamie Harris

Last Friday, August 25, the Berkeley Springs Indians varsity football team kicked off their 2023 season with a road trip to Grant County, to take on the Class A Petersburg Vikings. The young Indians and new head coach Wes Eddy were looking to pull off an upset of the Vikings.

The first two quarters were a defensive struggle between the two teams. However, Petersburg was able to find the end zone for two touchdowns to hold a 13-0 lead at the half.

The third and fourth quarters were a nightmare for the Indians as the Vikings started to get in a rhythm and touchdowns started to light up the scoreboard. When the final horn sounded the Vikings handed the Indians a 46-0 loss and a long bus ride back home to Morgan County.

Offensively, the Indians managed only 114 yards on the ground. No individual stats were available for the offense or defense.

The Indians (0-1) will host the Greencastle Blue Devils (Pa.) this Friday, September 1 at Morgan Field. Kickoff is slated for 7 p.m.
