Phyllis M. Andrews
1930-2023
Phyllis Margarette Andrews, 93, of Berkeley Springs, W.Va., went home to God, Saturday, August 5, 2023.
Mom was born on January 17, 1930, in Berkeley Springs, W.Va., the daughter of James D. Sheppard and Clara Shriver Sheppard.
Mom was a member of Berkeley Springs Presbyterian Church. After graduation from Berkeley Springs High School in 1947, Mom worked as an operator for the phone company. She was formerly married to Hale E. Andrews in 1950, and she became the mother of four children and loved being a mom. She loved cooking, baking, sewing, gardening, and was a great homemaker. Our mom also took flying lessons and was the first Morgan County native woman to fly solo.
Later in life, mom went back to school at Hagerstown Business College, where she graduated and became assistant bookstore manager at Hagerstown Junior College (now HCC). She then became bookstore manager, and was there until she retired at the age of 65. After retirement, mom loved playing bridge, making crafts, doing word search, and most of all spending time with her children and grandchildren and great-grandchildren!
Mom is survived by a family who will miss her deeply, but after years of suffering with Alzheimer’s dementia, we know she is in the arms of God, and is dancing the “jitterbug” with her sisters in heaven.
Surviving mom are two sons: Earle H. Andrews and wife Pat, of Lumberville, Pa.; Douglas M. Andrews and wife Sonia, of Berkeley Springs, W.Va.; two daughters: Kevan P. Namay and husband David of South Charleston, W.Va.; Kip E. Omps and her husband Wayne of Berkeley Springs, W.Va.; 12 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren.
Mom is preceded in death by three brothers: Raymond, Clarence and Robert Sheppard and three sisters: Katherine Sensel, Pauline Waugh, and Betty Glascock.
A private celebration of Mom’s life will be at a later date.
In memory of mom, please take the time to visit the residents at StoneRise Center in Berkeley Springs, W.Va., or send a little something to anyone there to let them know someone cares!
Arrangments are by the Giffin Funeral Home & Crematory in Capon Bridge, WV.
