Rev. Theodore Daniel Higby

1947 – 2023

Vietnam Veteran Reverend Theodore Daniel Higby, 76, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loved ones on June 14, 2023 in Hagerstown, Md. He will be greatly missed.

Born January 13, 1947 in Meadville, Pa., he was the son of the late Jesse David Higby Jr. and Irene (Lipscomb) Higby.

In 1965, he graduated from Berkeley Springs High School, then went on to proudly serve our country with the United States Marine Corps. He served a 13 month tour in Vietnam with the first MAW in support of ground operations. Proceeding his duties as a Marine, he went on to become a police officer. He also had a career in architectural design. Attending Delaware Tech from ‘72-‘76, he achieved an associates in architectural design and a Bachelor’s in occupational education. He became an ordained minister through Lancaster Theological Seminary Master of Divinity. Through recruitment of the Army Reserve, he achieved titles of Captain and Chaplain with the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged. A faithful servant of the Lord, he ministered several churches throughout Maryland and retired after 30 years of ministry with the United Methodist Church.

He enjoyed U.S. and family history, music, movies and shopping. He was the happiest while spending time with his beloved family.

Survived by his children: Daniel Higby, Jessica Higby, Erin Nelson, Sarah Higby; son in laws: Shawn Nelson and Dustin Smith; grandchildren: Michaela, Danielle, Brayden, Carter, Hailey, Lily, Kiari and Franklin; brothers: Jesse David Higby III and Sid Higby.

The funeral service in memory of Rev. Ted was held on Thursday, June 29, 2023 at 4 p.m. at Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home, 1331 Eastern Blvd N. Hagerstown, MD 21742. Burial took place at Rose Hill Cemetery, Thomas, W.Va., on Friday, June 30 at 11 a.m.
