Gary Eugene Jones, Sr.
1949-2023
Gary Eugene Jones, Sr., age 74, of Berkeley Springs, W.Va., died on Wednesday, May 24, 2023 at Winchester Medical Center.
Born March 4, 1949 in Baltimore, Md., he was the son of the late Jack Raymond and Mary Frances Hood Jones.
He was a Christian. Gary was a graduate. He served with the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam War where he was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnamese Service Medal, Vietnamese Campaign Medal, Rifle Marksman Badge, Good Conduct Medal and Purple Heart.
Gary worked in construction as a brick mason.
He was a member of the Alderton-Dawson American Legion Post #60 and Risinger-Stotler VFW Post #4019. Gary enjoyed fishing and loved mowing grass.
Gary is survived by his wife of 54 years, Dorothy Ann Kelley Jones, at home, his children, Tammi Thomas of Stroudsburg, Pa. and Gary E. Jones, Jr. of Stevensville, Md., two sisters, Jackie Austin-Wiltsee and Brenda Elliott, both of Leesburg, Fla., eleven grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Rebecca Stepp, one sister, Mary Lou Austin and three brothers, Raymond Wilson, John P. Jones and Donald E. Jones.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, May 31, 2023 at Helsley-Johnson Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 95 Union Street, Berkeley Springs, W.Va., with Pastor Jason Disch officiating. Burial with graveside military honors provided by the Tri-State Honor Guard will be in Rocky Gap Veterans Cemetery, Flintstone, Md. The family received friends from 1-3 p.m. and 5-7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
