Kasekamp, D. Tanouye and S. Tanouye capture Championships at Jim Turbin Invitational

This past Saturday, May 6, the Paw Paw Pirates track and field team traveled to Keyser for the Jim Turbin Invitational. With some nice weather for the day the Paw Paw athletes were ready to shine.

On the boys’ side the Pi- rates finished in fifth place with 45 points. Keyser (256), Moorefield (98), Petersburg (52) and Pendleton County (45) rounded out the top four teams.

Paw Paw was led by the tandem of Dalton Kasekamp and Donnie Tanouye.

Kasekamp won the discus with a throw of 139’11” and finished in second place in the shot with a throw of 45’ 6”. Tanouye took home two first place finishes with wins in the 1600 meters (5:01) and the long jump (18’ 9 1/4”). Tanouye also finished in fourth place in the 800 meters with a time of 2:14.

On the girls’ side the Lady Pirates finished in third place with 57 points. Keyser (160) and Petersburg (68) took the top two team spots.

Paw Paw was led by freshman Shayla Tanouye who matched her brother Donnie Tanouye with two first place finishes. Tanouye won the high jump (4’6”) and the long jump (14’8 3/4”) and added a second place finish in the 400 meters (1:11).

The Lady Pirates also got placements from Pricilla Corbin (fourth, 200 meters,29.92 and second, long jump, 14’ 2 1/4”). Miah Smith (sixth, 100 hurdles, 20.14, fifth, high jump, 4’ 2” and fourth, long jump, 13’ 10 1/4”). Myley Mullins (fourth place, shot put, 31’2”).

Next up for the Pirates is the Class A Region II Championships on Thursday, May 11 at Doddridge High School. Competition is slated to start at 2 p.m.
