Dalton Kasekamp captures Discus PVC Title

Last Wednesday, April 26 the Paw Paw Pirates track and field team traveled to Keyser for the Potomac Valley Conference Division II Championships. The Division II field featured East Hardy, Tucker County, Tygart Valley, Petersburg, Pendleton County, Pocahontas County, Paw Paw and Union.

On the boys’ side the Pi- rates finished in fifth place with 54 points. East Hardy (145), Tygart Valley (86), Pocahontas County (82) and Pendleton County (57). Paw Paw was led by sophomore standout Dominic Tanouye who had a career day as a track athlete. Tanouye picked up three first place finishes in the long jump (17’6 1/4”), 800 meters (2:14) and the 1600 meters (4:53). Tanouye then teamed with Andrew Harrold, Andrew Gilberto and Dreden Heath to finish third in the 4×100 meter relay with a time of 52.46.

Senior Dalton Kasekamp finished his final PVC track and field tournament with an impressive first place win in the discus. Kasekamp heaved 142’7” to capture the PVC title. In the shot put, Kasekamp finished in second place with a throw of 46’7.”

On the girls’ side the Lady Pirates finished in sixth place with 43.5 points. East Hardy (123), Tucker County (77), Tygart Valley (73), Petersburg (68) and Pocahontas County (64) rounded out the top five teams.

ters (29.85), long jump (14’3 1/4”) along with a sixth-place finish in the 100 meters (14.55). Freshman Shayla Tanouye finished in second place in the 400 meters (1:08.35), fourth in the 100- meter hurdles (18.49), fourth in high jump (4’4”), and sixth in the long jump (13’6 1/2”). Miah Smith finished in third place in the long jump with a distance of 13’11.” Myley Mullins finished in fourth place in the shot put with a throw of 27’9.”
