Carl Linwood Hovermale
1942-2023
Carl Linwood Hovermale, age 81, of Berkeley Springs, W.Va., died on Wednesday, April 26, 2023 at Shenandoah Center in Charles Town, W.Va.
Born March 12, 1942 in Morgan County, W.Va., he was the son of the late William V. and Elsie Viola Hovermale Hovermale.
He attended Asbury United Methodist Church in Charles Town, W,Va. Carl was a graduate of Berkeley Springs High School.
He worked for Potomac Edison as a lineman until his retirement in 1997.
Carl loved his John Deere tractors, NASCAR, fishing and spending his winters in Florida and loved spending time with his family. He was a member of Malta Masonic Lodge #80 A.F. & A.M. in Charles Town, Past Patron of Order of the Eastern Star Berkeley Springs Chapter #77.
Carl is survived by his wife, Sylvia Eileen Burke Hovermale at home; one daughter Amy Elizabeth Stull and her partner, J.R. Perry of Berkeley Springs; one brother Roy B. Hovermale of Berkeley Springs; five grandchildren, Emma Hoover, Taylor Stull, Andrew Hovermale, Cody Hovermale and Cameron Stull; one great grandson, Bryson Stanley and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Jeffrey Lynn Hovermale; four sisters, Janie Sirbaugh, Mamie Stotler, Mazie Orndorff and Connie French; one brother, Melvin T. Hovermale and one infant brother.
Funeral services were conducted at 11 a.m. on Monday, May 1, 2023 at Helsley-Johnson Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 95 Union Street, Berkeley Springs, W.Va. Pastor Kenny Mason officiated. Burial with graveside Masonic rites was in Highland Cemetery.
The family received friends from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. on Sunday, April 30, 2023 at the funeral home, where an Order of Eastern Star memorial service was at 6 p.m.
