Indians pick up win over East Fairmont

The Berkeley Springs Indians baseball team was back on the diamond this week with three games including one at Morgan Field.

On Tuesday, March 28 the Indians hosted the Class AAA Spring Mills Cardinals in a thrilling game that was not decided until the final inning.

Berkeley Springs jumped out to a 3-0 lead after the first inning. Spring Mills cut the lead to 3-2 in the top of the second inning. The Indians would increase their lead to 4-2 in the bottom of the fourth inning. After a score- less fifth inning the Tribe plated another run to go up 5- 2 in the bottom of the sixth inning. The top of the seventh inning became a nightmare for the Indians as Spring Mills rallied with five runs to take a 7-5 lead. The Indians tried to rally in the bottom of the seventh but could not close the gap and lost 7-5.

Leading the way for the Indians were Chance Swink (two doubles and three runs), Riley Albanese (single and two RBI’ s), Devon Faith (two singles), Caleb Stotler (single and RBI), Cole Oursler (single, double, run and RBI) and Kyle Rankin (two singles, run and RBI).

On Saturday, April 1 the Tribe traveled to Ridgley, for a contest with the East Fairmont Bees and then with the Frankfort Falcons.

Against East Fairmont the Indians came out hot at the plate and took a quick 6-0 lead after the first two innings. From there the Indians continued to play well and recorded their first win of the season by the score of 13-6.

Cole Oursler was on the mound for the Indians.

Leading the way for the Tribe were Swink (two singles, double and four runs), Reagan Johnson (four singles and three runs), Oursler (double, RBI and three runs), Rankin (two singles, double, two runs and four RBI’s), Stotler (single and run), Ben Akers (double, RBI and run), and Faith (single and three RBI’s).

In the second game the Indians jumped out on the host Falcons 6-3 after the first five innings of play. Frankfort would rally and score the two winning runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to stun the Tribe 7-6.

Berkeley Springs (1-4) will be back in action this week with two games. On Monday, April 3 the Indians will host the Hancock Panthers at 5 p.m.. Then on Wednesday, April 5 the Tribe will travel to Hedgesville for a 5 p.m. game.
