The 2023 spring softball season kicked off this past week for the Berkeley Springs Lady Indians. Berkeley Springs started things off this past Friday, March 17, with a home game against the Class AAA Hampshire Trojans.
The Lady Indians scored eight runs over the five innings to take the run rule 8-0 win over Hampshire. Emily Schultz went the distance in the circle, allowing one hit and striking out three Trojan batters.
At the plate the Lady Indians were led by Destiny Parsell (2 singles), Layla Parsell (single and RBI), Justina Vann (run), Emma Widmeyer (single, double, run and 2 RBI’ s), Ocean Clatterbuck (3 runs), Marley Heath (single, double and run), Alaira Harrington (2 singles and run) and Allison Gray (single, run and RBI).
On Saturday, March 18 the Lady Indians boarded the bus and headed to Petersburg, for a double header against the Vikings.
In game one Petersburg took the 8-0 win as Schultz got the lone hit for the Tribe.
In game two the Lady Indians bounced back and took an impressive 11-3 run over the Vikings. Schultz got her second win of the season going six innings striking out eight Vikings.
Offensively, the Lady Indians were led by Gray (single, 2 runs and RBI), Harrington (single and RBI), Mykenzie Stotler (single and run), Alaina Stevens (run), Cheyenne Lewis (run), Heath (single and run), Clatterbuck (2 singles and 3 runs), Widmeyer (single, double, run and 3 RBI’s), Schultz (single, double and RBI), Parsell (2 singles, dou ble, RBI and run), Parsell (single and RBI).
Berkeley Springs (2-1) will be back on the diamond this week with a double header at Martinsburg on Monday, March 20. On Wednesday, March 22 the Lady Indians will host sectional rival Keyser at 4:30 p.m. On Thursday, March 23 the Lady Indians will host Bishop Walsh (Md.) at 5 p.m.
