Playground & fitness equipment installed at Warm Springs Middle School

The first multi-use outdoor recreation equipment system at the county’s only middle school has been installed for students to use.

Warm Springs Middle School recently had new playground equipment installed. The ExoCage is a multi-function outdoor gym that provides a full body workout.

Middle school Principal Jamie Harris said the school purchased the equipment with Elementary and Secondary School Relief Fund (ESSERF) money, which is for COVID-impact projects.

Physical education teachers Matt Griffith and Dale McCumbee came up with the idea to help improve students’ capabilities in different fitness areas. Griffith is now the Berkeley Springs High School Communities in Schools liaison.

The equipment offers upper and lower body work- outs and abdominal workouts, Harris noted. Sections include a horizontal ladder, a pull up station, a push up station, Swedish ladder, knee station and detachable battle ropes.

Physical education classes, tiered support system inter- murals and the MC After 3 program will all use the equipment. Harris would eventually like to expand the equipment.
