Rabies confirmed in raccoon on Harrison Avenue

A confirm case of rabies in a raccoon near Harrison Avenue has led the Berkeley-Morgan Health Department to issue a public alert for that area.

The Morgan County Health Department said last Thursday they were notified by the West Virginia Office of Laboratory Services of a positive test result for the rabies virus from a raccoon in the North Berkeley area.

Residents who believe they or someone else may have come into direct contact with the animal can call the Health Department at 304-258-1513 or Morgan County Animal Control at 304-258-0326.

Citizens are also reminded to make sure their pets have current rabies vaccinations, and are reminded to avoid contact with wildlife.
