Alvin Carl Bain, Jr.

1946-2023

Alvin “AC” Carl Bain, Jr., 77, Hancock, Md., passed away Thursday, February 16, 2023, at Meritus Medical Center in Hagerstown, Md.

Born January 17,1946, in East McKeesport, Pa., he was the son of the late Alvin C. and Margret Smith Bain, Sr.

He was a graduate of Hancock High School, Class of 1964, and enlisted in the Air Force in 1965.

He was a self-taught locksmith and practiced that trade alongside running A.C. Bain retail business in Hancock, Williamsport, and Hagerstown, Md. from 1975-2018. He was an engineer with The Maryland State Department of Corrections beginning in 1982 and until his retirement in 2008.

He enjoyed selling and browsing at flea markets in Maryland, Pennsylvania and West Virginia after closing his retail stores.

He is survived by two sons, Kevin L. Bain, and wife, Brenda, of Hancock, Md., and Brian L. Bain, Sr., of Breezewood, Pa.; three grandchildren, Michael Bain, and wife, Klara, of London England; Morgan Younker, and husband, Derek, of Warfordsburg , Pa., and Brian Bain, Jr. of Hancock, Md.; step-grandchildren Faith Simmons, and husband, Bobby, of Romney W.Va., Aaron Wagner, and wife, Bethany, of Berkeley Springs, W.Va., and Dalton Trail of Hancock, Md. and several great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a sister, Joan L. Bain.

The family will receive friends Saturday, February 25, 2023, 9-11 a.m., at Grove Funeral Home, 141 West Main St., Hancock, Md. Pastor Jeff Hawbaker will officiate. Graveside service will follow at 12 p.m., at Damascus Christian Church Cemetery, Big Cove Tannery, Pa.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in “AC’s” name to Washington County Humane Society, 13011 Maugansville Rd., Hagerstown, MD 21740.

Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Grove Funeral Home, 141 West Main St., Hancock, MD.
