Dessa Lurene Linaweaver Gano

1925-2023

Dessa Lurene Linaweaver Gano, age 97, of Berkeley Springs, W.Va., passed away unexpectedly at her home on Friday, February 10, 2023.

Born September 4, 1925 in Morgan County, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Wilmer Marion and Geneva Bragg Linaweaver.

She was a member of First United Methodist Church, where she was active with church functions. For many years, Dessa taught Sunday school and Vacation Bible School to the youth. She was a 1944 graduate of Berkeley Springs High School and earned her bookkeeping certificate from Hagerstown Business College. Dessa had worked as a bookkeeper for Citizens National Bank and Largent’s Trucking Company and in recent years she was a homemaker. She enjoyed sewing, baking, canning and freezing her garden vegetables.

Dessa is survived by her children, Joy Lurene Gano Butts and Gary Stuart Gano, both of Berkeley Springs, one sister-in-law, Julia Hovermale Linaweaver, and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Harry Stuart Gano on October 4, 2003, one sister, Mary Elizabeth Young, one brother, George William Linaweaver and one infant brother.

Funeral services will be conducted at noon on Thursday, February 16, 2023 at Helsley-Johnson Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 95 Union Street, Berkeley Springs, W.Va. Pastor Chuck Bergen will officiate. Burial will be in Greenway Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home.
