Indians take road win at Petersburg

Last Tuesday, January 24, the Berkeley Springs Indians basketball team hit the road for a trip to Petersburg. The Tribe and Vikings were both looking to get back on track in the wins column.

Petersburg jumped out to a 11-10 first quarter lead. The second quarter the Indians bounced back to take a 19-17 halftime lead. The third quarter both teams struggled to find points but the Indians maintained a 28-21 lead after three. In the final quarter the Indians were able to find some points to take the 45- 37 win.

Gavin Young (12 points), Jacob Shekey (10 points), Ty’Mir Ross (9 points), Dakota Ham- rick (6 points), RJ Thompson (5 points) and Carlester Allen (3 points) led the Indians in the win.

On Saturday, January 28 the Indians hosted Class A A A A Hedgesville. The Eagles jumped out to a 14-2 first quarter lead behind a tenacious defense and crisp offense. The second quarter got worse for the Indians as Hedgesville used a 26-7 run to take a 40-9 halftime lead.

The third and fourth quarter continued to be a nightmare for the Indians as the Eagles registered the 75-29 win.

Ross (14 points), Parker Glaser (3 points), Young (2 points), Cole Oursler (2 points), Shekey (2 points) and Hunter Ambrose (2 points) scored in the loss.

Berkeley Springs (7-7) were  back in action this Monday, January 30, with a home contest with the Fort Hill Sentinels. The JV game started at 6 p.m. and the varsity followed at 7:30 p.m. Then on Thursday, February 2 the Tribe will host Keyser. The JV game starts at 6 p.m. and the varsity follows at 7:30 p.m. On Saturday, February 4 the Indians will travel to Frankfort for a contest. The JV game will start at 1 p.m. and the varsity will follow at 3:30 p.m.
