Free concert Friday of The Sylvan Waters Duo

The Hancock Arts Council will host a free chamber ensemble concerts this Friday, February 3 at 7:30 p.m. in the Hancock Performing Arts Center at Town Hall, located at 126 West High Street in Hancock.

The Sylvan Waters Duo is a chamber ensemble formed by the joining of double bassist Raymond Irving, with harpist Dr. Tula Ruggiero.

For 25 years, Mr. Irving toured the country and the world in the United States Army Field Band. He now holds the positions of Principal Bass with the Prince George’s Philharmonic and Shippensburg Orchestra.

Dr. Ruggiero is Professor of Harp at Shepherd University where she teaches college level harp students. She performs for private events, and plays principal harp with such groups as Shippensburg Orchestra and the Charles Washington Symphony Orchestra.

After meeting during a run in the pit of “The Nutcracker” with the Shippensburg Orchestra in 2019, the duo agreed to dedicate themselves to expanding the range for the combination of harp and bass.

The upcoming concert will encompass an eclectic mix of music by a wide range of composers such as Henry Eccles, Florence Price, Claude Debussy, Astor Piazolla, Arvo Part and Megan Metheny.

The concert is free and open to the public.
