The Morgan County School Board expelled two students in December, one at their December 6 meeting and the other at their December 20 meeting. The board went into closed executive session at the end of each meeting to discuss possible action related to student discipline, suspension and/or expulsion.
In the first case E2022-01, the school board unanimously approved the superintendent’s recommendation to expel the student after reconvening in open session on December 6.
On December 20, the school board voted to accept the superintendent’ s recommendation to expel the student involved in case E2022-02 for 45 days after they returned to open session.
Superintendent Kristen Tuttle declined to release any information regarding the expulsions citing student confidentiality. Information requested was the student’ s age or grade, gender, school and the reason for the expulsion.
School safety project
In other school board business, the Board of Education has hired Minghini’ s General Contractors, Inc. for the Widmyer Elementary Safe School Entrance project pending post bid paperwork completion. The project cost is estimated at $159,352. County policies
The board adopted two policies after a second reading: Policy 2230.03 Hunter Safety Orientation Program and Policy 5421 Grading.
The school board approved the virtual registration for board members John Rowland and Justin Litten for the West Virginia School Board Association’ s February 17-18 Winter Conference.
