Indians roll by Frankfort 67-36

The Berkeley Springs Indians basketball team was back in action this past week as they hosted Frankfort on Tuesday night, December 13, and then traveled to Hedgesville for the Hedgesville Basketball Mixer. On Friday, December 16, the Indians took on the Sherando Warriors (Va.) and then on Saturday, December 17, they face IDEA School (Washington, D.C.).

Last Tuesday the Indians hosted longtime rival Frankfort at the friendly confines of the BSHS gym. Berkeley Springs raced out to a 16-11 first quarter lead. In the second quarter the Tribe defense wore down the Falcons and the offense went on a 12-5 run to take a 28-16 halftime lead. In the third quarter the Indians continued the relentless pace outscoring Frankfort 28-9 to hold a comfortable 56-25 lead after three. The final quarter saw Berkeley Springs finish with a 21-11 run to wrap up the 67-36 win.

The Indians had four players score in double digits as T y’ Mir Ross (19 points), Holden Gurson (11 points), RJ Thompson (10 points), and Cole Oursler (10 points) led the way. Gavin Young (9 points), Dakota Hamrick (4 points), Carlester Allen (2 points), Jacob Shekey (2 points) and Isaiah Hutchinson (2 points) also scored. Ross (6 rebounds), Gurson (7 rebounds) and Hamrick (6 rebounds) controlled the boards for the Indians. Allen dished out a game high 5 assists in the win.

On Friday night Berkeley Springs and Sherando tipped off and the first quarter was back and forth but the Warriors held a slim 14-12 lead after the first quarter. The second quarter saw Sherando take control of the game and start to pull away from the Indians using a 23-15 run to take a 37-27 halftime lead.

The third quarter Sherando outscored Berkeley Springs 20-8 to take a commanding 57-35 lead. The Warriors put the game away in the fourth quarter and wrapped up the 62-43 win over the Tribe.

T y’ Mir Ross (27 points) led the way for Berkeley Springs. Also scoring was Carlester Allen (4 points), RJ Thompson (2 points), Gavin Young (2 points), Cole Oursler (2 points), Jacob Shekey (2 points), Holden Gurson (2 points) and Dakota Hamrick (2 points).

On Saturday night the Indians played IDEA out of Washington, D.C. The first quarter the Indians scrapped with the private school but trailed 18-11 after one. The second quarter IDEA was able to take a 37-24 halftime lead. The third quarter IDEA continued to wear down the Indians raced out to a 54-28 lead. In the final quarter IDEA wrapped up the win by the score of 79-41.

Berkeley Springs was led by T y’ Mir Ross (14 points), RJ Thompson (8 points), Landen Schetrompf (6 points), Gavin Young (5 points), Parker Glaser (2 points), Cole Oursler (2 points), and Dakota Hamrick (4 points).

Berkeley Springs (2-3) will be back in action on December 27 and 28 for the Tri- State Shootout. Berkeley Springs will face Northern Garrett in the 7:30 p.m. con- test on December 27.
