Indians take win over Grace Christian, falls at home to Alleghany

The Berkeley Springs Indians basketball team made their 2022-2023 debut this past week with a pair of home games. The Tribe were ready to get their new season off to a great start.

On Tuesday, December 6, the Indians hosted Grace Christian. The first quarter saw both teams trading bas- kets. By the end of the first quarter the Indians held a slim 17-16 lead. The second quarter the Indians started to heat up as they outscored Grace 21-6 to take a 38-22 halftime lead.

The third quarter saw the Indians maintain the hot shooting as they outscored Grace 21-19 to keep a 59-41 lead. The final quarter saw the Indians use a 19-16 run to secure the 78-57 win.

Senior T y’ mir Ross had a career night for the Indians as he tallied 31 points and pulled down 8 rebounds. Jacob Shekey (13 points), Holden Gurson (10 points & 11 rebounds), Gavin Young (9 points and 6 rebounds), Dakota Hamrick (5 points), Landon Schetrompf (4 points), Axel Robles (3 points), Hunter Ambrose (2 points) and Cole Oursler (1 point and 11 rebound) also helped contribute to the Tribe win.

On Thursday, December 8 the Indians hosted Alleghany (Md.) at the friendly confines of the BSHS gym.

The first quarter saw both team struggle to find a scoring rhythm. By the end of the quarter Alleghany held a 8-6 lead.

The second quarter saw the visitors from Cumberland, Md., go on 23-14 run to take a 31-20 halftime lead over the Tribe. The third and fourth quarters saw the Indians struggle with the Alleghany pressure and fall by the score of 55-42.

Berkeley Springs was led by Tymir Ross (20 points and 9 rebounds), Gavin Young (8 points), Jacob Shekey (4 points), Dakota Hamrick (3 points and rebounds), Cole Oursler (2 points and 5 re- bounds). Carlester Allen (3 points) and Ettore Boscoe (2 points) helped contribute as well.

Berkeley Springs (1-1) will be back in action this week when they host Frankfort on Tuesday, December 13.

Junior varsity will tip-off at 6 p.m., and the varsity will follow at 7:30 p.m. Then on Friday, December 16 the Indians will participate in the Hedgesville Mixer taking on Sherando at 6:30 p.m. On Saturday, December 17, the Indians will play IDEA at 6:30 p.m. Both of these contests are at Hedgesville High School.
