Expanded Winter Fest Parade will roll Saturday

by Trish Rudder

The 6th annual Winter Fest Parade will roll through Berkeley Springs this Saturday, December 3, beginning at 5 p.m.  The parade event has grown, with about 90 entrees this year and larger floats joining the public display.

To accommodate more and larger floats, the parade route has been extended. It will start at the Berkeley Springs Moose and will end at Widmyer Elementary School. That longer route will also allow trucks and trailers more room to turn the vehicles around.

Danielle Swope, who heads up the Winter Fest Parade, said the town’s Christmas Tree Lighting ceremony on Fairfax Street will be held at 7 p.m. to allow the parade participants to get back into town before the lights are switched on.

Swope said the parade “is definitely bigger this year and some new people have joined us.”

“I am beyond excited this year!” Swope said.

Other events will take place in conjunction with the parade, including caroling in the downtown area.
