An accidental collision between a Ford Escape and the front of the Berkeley Springs post office last Thursday has caused structural damage to the front door area but didn’t result in any injuries.
Deputy Tony Link of the Morgan County Sheriff’s Department said a local resident in her mid-70s went to pull into the post office parking lot and accidentally hit the accelerator instead of the brakes, striking the brick corner of the building.
Deputy Link said the incident happened around 3:40 p.m. on Thursday, September 22.
The driver was not injured in the incident and no post office patrons were near the doorway when the vehicle struck.
Link said there will be no charges filed in the collision.
Post office patrons on Friday were being directed to use the door on the east side of the building to go inside for their mail and to reach staff at the counter.
