State police arrest Michigan man on drug charges; seize marijuana

West Virginia State Police arrested a Michigan man on drug distribution charges following a traffic stop on Valley Road at Kyne Lane last Friday, August 26 at about 1 p.m. According to a criminal complaint filed in Morgan County Magistrate Court by Trooper S.M. Ward, officers observed a silver Nissan Altima with unknown and obscured temporary tags traveling south along U.S. 522, and initiated a traffic stop. Approaching the sedan, officers reportedly detected a strong odor of marijuana. One of the passengers, identified as Brandon S. Orvis, 28, of Essexville, Mich., allegedly admitted he was in possession of marijuana. After searching the man’s bag, officers reportedly found two bundles of a leafy green substance consistent with marijuana. Police also seized from the trunk a cardboard box with eight smaller bags of the green substance, and a small jar of wax material. Orvis was arrested and charged with felony possession of a controlled substance with the intent to distribute. While being processed at the state police barracks, Orvis allegedly revealed the total weight of the substances in his possession was approximately one-and-a-half pounds. He is currently incarcerated in Eastern Regional Jail awaiting a hearing in the matter.
