The Washington County Department of Solid Waste is offering free Christmas tree recycling to county residents this year. Trees will be accepted daily beginning Monday, December 27, through Monday, January 31, 2022.
All lights, ornaments, and nails must be removed from the tree before being recycled.
Trees will be accepted at the Hancock Convenience Center located at 6502 Hess Road, Tuesdays through Saturdays from 7:30 a.m. until 3:30 p.m.
Other locations are the Forty West Landfill (one mile west of Huyettâs Crossroads off Rt. 40 on Earth Care Road, Mondays through Saturdays from 7 a.m. until 3 p.m.), Greensburg Convenience Center (13125 Bikle Road in Smithsburg, Tuesdays through Saturdays from 7:30 a.m. until 3:30 p.m.), Kaetzel Convenience Center (2926 Kaetzel Road in Knoxville, Tuesdays through Saturdays 7:30 a.m. until 3:30 p.m.), and Dargan Convenience Center (2201 Dargan School Road in Sharpsburg, Tuesdays through Saturdays from 7:30 a.m. until 3:30 p.m.).
All locations will accept a maximum of two trees per household.
