Robert Eugene “Gene” Boyer, 69, of Berkeley Springs, W.Va., died on Monday, January 17, 2022 in Russellville, Ohio.

Gene was born on February 2, 1952 in Berkeley Springs, W.Va., to his late biological parents William Boyer and Joann Manning. He was also preceded in death by the parents he called Dad and Mom, Wishard Deshong and Mary “Tom” Manning Crawford.

He is survived by his wife Nonie Boyer; son Timothy Boyer and daughter-in-law Samantha Boyer; daughter Rebekah Noe and son-in-law Christopher Noe; six grandchildren Makensie and Kyleigh Boyer and Kiara, Nathaniel, Elijah and Genevieve Noe; his step-father (“Tom’s” husband) Charles Crawford; stepdaughter Amy Spinks and three step grandchildren Justice Whitacre, Sierra and Joey Yoak.

Gene graduated from Hancock Middle Senior High School in 1970.

He spent six years in the Army Reserve and then retired from the Hagerstown Maryland Correctional Institution with 27 years of service.

He was an avid outdoorsman enjoying many activities. He spent many hours chasing the whitetail buck and smallmouth bass. He also had a passion for softball. He spent many years playing before he began coaching his Hancock Jimco Trailers middle school girl’s teams that he proudly coached to over 100 wins with only 2 losses. He enjoyed spending time with his family and watching his grandchildren play sports. He will be missed very much.

The family will be having a celebration of life for friends and family on Saturday, February 5 from 4-7 p.m., at the Hancock American Legion in the upstairs room at the rear entrance.
