1924-2022
Ralph Edward Michael, age 98, of Hedgesville, W.Va., died on Monday, June 6, 2022 at the Hospice of the Panhandle Inpatient Facility in Kearneysville, W.Va.
Born April 8, 1924 in Morgan County, W.Va., he was the son of the late Calvin Benton and Grace May Widmyer Michael.
He was a member of Victory Tabernacle in Hedgesville. He attended the Mt. Cecil School and retired, after 25 years of service in the dietary department of the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Martinsburg. He served in the U.S. Army from July 27, 1946 until his honorable discharge on November 2, 1947. He enjoyed farming, gardening and his John Deere Tractor.
Ralph is survived by his wife of 70 years, Harriet Irene Bohrer Michael, at home; one son, Matthew Edward Michael, of Hedgesville; two grandsons, Benjamin Matthew Michael, of Hedgesville and Shane Jonathan Michael, of Martinsburg; two great-granddaughters, Courtney Bittinger and Jessica Bittinger, both of Chambersburg, Pa.; five great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Timothy Kent Michael; one granddaughter, Angela Dawn Bittinger; two sisters, Evelyn Carbaugh and Helen Johnson and one brother, Raymond Michael.
Funeral services were conducted on Thursday, June 9, at Helsley-Johnson Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 95 Union Street, Berkeley Springs, W.Va., with Pastor Kirk Powers officiating. Interment was at Highland Cemetery, with graveside military honors provided by the Tri-State Honor Guard.
